Delight in these rustic, spiced pear hand pies, perfect for a cozy treat or dessert. Filled with tender pears and warm spices, they're easy to make and irresistibly delicious.

Ingredients

Filling

  • 4 large Anjou USA Pears (peeled, cored, and diced into 1/2 inch squares)
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 split vanilla bean vanilla bean (split and seeds removed)
  • 3 tablespoons light agave nectar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cardamom
  • 2 teaspoons ground cloves
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon fresh grated ginger
  • 2 tablespoons flour (for work surface)
  • 1 package pie crusts (2 per package, thawed)
  • 1 egg beaten egg

Instructions 

  • Cook pears in butter until they release liquid, then add vanilla, agave, spices, and ginger. Simmer until thickened, then cool.
  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Roll out pie crusts and cut into 3-inch rounds.
  • Fill each round with pear mixture, fold over, crimp edges, and chill for 20 minutes.
  • Vent pies with small slits, brush with egg wash, and bake for 20-22 minutes until golden.

Notes

Chill the assembled pies before baking for best results.
