This flavorful one-skillet dish combines tender marinated steak with creamy rice, sweet honey BBQ sauce, and savory aromatics for a quick and satisfying meal.

Ingredients

Meat

  • 1 pound flank steak (sliced thinly)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (for searing the steak)
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • ½ cup barbecue sauce (your favorite brand or homemade)
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon chili powder (optional for a slight kick)

Rice

  • 1 cup uncooked white rice (long-grain or jasmine recommended)
  • 1 ¾ cups beef broth (low-sodium)
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 small onion (finely chopped)
  • 3 cloves garlic (minced)

Instructions 

  • Marinate the steak with soy, Worcestershire, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper for 15 minutes.
  • Mix barbecue sauce, honey, Dijon mustard, vinegar, garlic powder, and chili powder to make the honey BBQ sauce.
  • Sear the marinated steak in hot oil for 2-3 minutes per side, then set aside.
  • Sauté onion and garlic in butter until soft, then add rice and toast for 1-2 minutes.
  • Add broth, simmer covered for 15-18 minutes until rice is tender. Stir in cream and cheese, then return steak and sauce, simmer briefly.

Notes

For extra flavor, let the steak marinate longer or add a dash of hot sauce to the sauce mixture.
