Cranberry Orange Scone

Enjoy these flaky, citrus-infused scones studded with fresh cranberries for a delightful treat.

Ingredients

Dough

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 Tbsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 Tbsp orange zest (about 2 oranges)

Butter

  • ½ cup cold unsalted butter (cubed)

Wet ingredients

  • ½ cup buttermilk
  • 1 Tbsp orange juice (freshly squeezed)
  • 1 large egg

Cranberries

  • 1 cup fresh or frozen cranberries (do not thaw frozen cranberries)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2-3 Tbsp orange juice (for glaze)

Instructions 

  • Mix flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and orange zest. Cut in cold butter until pea-sized.
  • Make a well, add buttermilk, orange juice, and egg. Gently combine, then fold in cranberries.
  • Knead dough briefly on a floured surface. Shape into an 8-10 inch disc, chill for 5-10 minutes.
  • Cut into 8 wedges, place on a lined baking sheet, freeze for 30 minutes. Preheat oven to 400°F during last 5 minutes.
  • Brush with egg wash, sprinkle sugar if desired, then bake for 20-26 minutes until golden. Cool before serving.

Notes

For extra flavor, add a touch of vanilla or orange extract to the dough.
