Ingredients

Oatmeal Crumble

  • 1 cup old fashioned rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup dark brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed

Apple Filling

  • 2/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 Tbsp arrowroot starch or cornstarch
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 7 cups peeled and diced apples
  • 1/2 tsp pure almond extract

Instructions 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a cast iron skillet.
  • Mix oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt; cut in butter until crumbly. Chill.
  • Combine sugar, starch, cinnamon, salt, apples, and almond extract; fill skillet and top with crumble.
  • Bake for 55-60 minutes until golden and bubbling. Cool before serving.

Notes

Serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream for extra indulgence.
