A comforting baked pasta dish with rich tomato sauce, ricotta, and melted mozzarella cheese.

Ingredients

Pasta

  • 1 pound ziti pasta (Cooked until al dente)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 large chopped onion (Cook until softened)
  • 2 cloves minced garlic (Add to the onion)
  • 1 28-ounce can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 15-ounce can tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (Optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 15 ounces ricotta cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 large beaten egg
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Instructions 

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Cook pasta and prepare sauce with tomatoes, garlic, herbs, and seasonings.
  • Mix cooked pasta with ricotta, Parmesan, egg, parsley, and sauce.
  • Transfer to baking dish, top with mozzarella, and bake for 25-30 minutes.
  • Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

For a vegetarian version, skip the meat and add vegetables like spinach or mushrooms.
