A delicious layered dessert combining caramelized apples, creamy pudding, whipped cream, and crunchy pecans for a perfect fall treat.

Ingredients

Fruits and Caramel

  • 5 medium apples (Granny Smith and Honeycrisp mix, peeled and diced)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar (packed)
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Custard and Toppings

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 box instant vanilla pudding mix (3.4 oz)
  • 2 cups cold whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 cups heavy whipping cream
  • 1/3 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 loaf pound cake (about 10.75 oz, cut into cubes)
  • 3/4 cup toasted pecans (chopped)

Extra

  • to taste caramel for drizzling

Instructions 

  • Cook apples with butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice until tender and caramelized.
  • Prepare vanilla pudding with milk as per package instructions and chill.
  • Whip heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla until stiff peaks form.
  • Layer apples, pudding, pound cake cubes, whipped cream, and pecans in a trifle dish. Drizzle with caramel.
  • Repeat layers and finish with whipped cream, pecans, and caramel drizzle. Chill before serving.

Notes

For best results, prepare the trifle a few hours in advance to allow flavors to meld.
