Enjoy a flavorful bourbon-marinated salmon with a perfect sear and tender finish, inspired by Longhorn Steakhouse.

Ingredients

Salmon

  • 2-4 filets salmon filets
  • 3/4 cup bourbon
  • 1/4 cup lower-sodium soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup light brown sugar (lightly packed)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh minced garlic (roughly 3 medium cloves)
  • 1 tablespoon freshly grated ginger (generally a 1-inch piece)
  • Juice of 1 each lime
  • 1/4 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper (a few turns of a grinder)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Optional garnish

  • to taste thinly sliced green onions or chives, lime or lemon wedges

Instructions 

  • Whisk bourbon, soy sauce, and brown sugar until dissolved. Stir in ginger, garlic, black pepper, and lime juice.
  • Pour marinade into a dish, add salmon, then pour remaining marinade over. Cover and refrigerate for 2 hours.
  • Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Heat a skillet over high heat, add olive oil after 30 seconds.
  • Place salmon in skillet, seared for 2 minutes, then flip and transfer to oven. Roast for 3-7 minutes depending on thickness.
  • Rest the salmon briefly, then remove skin if desired. Garnish with green onions and lime wedges. Serve with sides.

Notes

Ensure not to overcook the salmon for best tenderness.
