4tbspunsalted butter (melted)
Apple Filling
4mediumGranny Smith apples (peeled and diced)
2tbspunsalted butter
1/4cupbrown sugar (packed)
1 1/2tspground cinnamon
1/8tspground nutmeg
2tsplemon juice
Cream Layer
1/2cupheavy cream (for whipped topping)
1/4cupheavy cream (for filling)
1/2tspvanilla extract
1 pinchsalt
1 1/4cupsheavy whipping cream (cold)
4ozcream cheese (softened)
1/3cuppowdered sugar
1tspground cinnamon
1tspvanilla extract
Instructions
Prepare the oat topping by mixing oats, flour, chopped pecans, brown sugar, cinnamon, salt, and melted butter. Set aside.
Cook the diced apples with butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice until tender. Layer apples in a trifle dish.
Sprinkle the oat topping over the apples and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 15 minutes until golden.
Whip the heavy cream with vanilla and powdered sugar until stiff peaks form. Mix softened cream cheese with heavy cream, vanilla, and powdered sugar to make filling.
Layer the whipped cream mixture over the cooled apple layer, then top with additional whipped cream if desired. Chill before serving.
Notes
For best results, chill the trifle for at least 1 hour before serving to allow flavors to meld.
