A delightful layered dessert combining spiced apples, crunchy oat topping, and creamy whipped topping for a perfect treat.

Ingredients

Oats and Toppings

  • 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup pecans (finely chopped)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar (packed)
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter (melted)

Apple Filling

  • 4 medium Granny Smith apples (peeled and diced)
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar (packed)
  • 1 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 2 tsp lemon juice

Cream Layer

  • 1/2 cup heavy cream (for whipped topping)
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream (for filling)
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 1/4 cups heavy whipping cream (cold)
  • 4 oz cream cheese (softened)
  • 1/3 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions 

  • Prepare the oat topping by mixing oats, flour, chopped pecans, brown sugar, cinnamon, salt, and melted butter. Set aside.
  • Cook the diced apples with butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice until tender. Layer apples in a trifle dish.
  • Sprinkle the oat topping over the apples and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 15 minutes until golden.
  • Whip the heavy cream with vanilla and powdered sugar until stiff peaks form. Mix softened cream cheese with heavy cream, vanilla, and powdered sugar to make filling.
  • Layer the whipped cream mixture over the cooled apple layer, then top with additional whipped cream if desired. Chill before serving.

Notes

For best results, chill the trifle for at least 1 hour before serving to allow flavors to meld.
